Fixman Universal Joint 3/8" Drive

At a Glance: 3/8" drive universal joint for improving socket access to angled, offset and obstructed fasteners

The Fixman FIX J0402 3/8" drive universal joint is a practical socket accessory designed to allow a compatible socket to operate at an angle to the ratchet, handle or extension bar. This helps users reach fasteners that are obstructed, offset or positioned where a straight socket connection is not possible. Suitable for compatible 3/8" drive socket tools, it is a useful addition to automotive, workshop, machinery, maintenance, assembly and repair toolkits.

Flexible socket access for awkward fastening positions

The universal joint creates an articulated connection between the drive tool and socket, allowing the socket to be angled around nearby components and obstructions. It is especially useful in engine bays, machinery, equipment and assemblies where direct access is limited.

Product highlights

  • 3/8" drive Compatible with suitable 3/8" drive ratchets, sockets, handles and extensions.
  • Articulating joint Allows the socket to operate at an angle to the drive tool.
  • Improved fastener access Helps reach offset, obstructed and difficult-to-access nuts and bolts.
  • Versatile socket accessory Suitable for automotive, workshop, machinery and maintenance applications.
  • Toolbox essential A practical addition to individual socket collections and complete socket sets.

Extra Information

  • Use only with compatible 3/8" drive sockets, ratchets, handles and extensions.
  • Make sure both square drive connections are fully seated before use.
  • Use the smallest practical working angle to improve control and torque transfer.
  • Apply steady, controlled pressure and avoid excessive side loading.
  • Do not use the universal joint as a punch, pry tool, lever or striking tool.

Pro Tips

  • Keep the universal joint as straight as possible when breaking a stubborn fastener loose.
  • Use the angled position mainly for access rather than for applying maximum force.
  • Pair the joint with a suitable extension bar when additional reach and angular access are both required.
  • Support the socket end with your free hand where safe and practical to improve alignment and control.

How to Use

  • Select a compatible 3/8" drive ratchet, handle, extension and socket.
  • Attach the universal joint securely to the drive tool or extension bar.
  • Fit the required socket onto the opposite end of the universal joint.
  • Place the socket fully over the fastener.
  • Adjust the joint only enough to clear the surrounding obstruction.
  • Keep the socket properly seated and aligned with the fastener.
  • Turn clockwise to tighten or anti-clockwise to loosen using steady, controlled pressure.
  • Remove, clean and store the universal joint after use.

Features

  • Universal joint design Provides angular movement between a compatible drive tool and socket.
  • 3/8" square drive fitment Suitable for compatible ratchets, handles, extensions and sockets.
  • Flexible working angle Helps position the socket around nearby components and obstructions.
  • Compact socket accessory Useful in confined areas where a straight connection is not practical.
  • General-purpose use Suitable for automotive, machinery, maintenance, assembly and repair tasks.

Benefits

  • Improved access: Helps reach fasteners positioned at an angle or behind nearby components.
  • Greater flexibility: Allows the ratchet or handle to be positioned away from an obstruction.
  • Reduced tool repositioning: Helps simplify fastening tasks in confined and awkward locations.
  • Practical compatibility: Works with suitable 3/8" drive sockets, ratchets and extension bars.

  • Do not apply excessive torque while the universal joint is sharply angled.
  • Do not use the universal joint as a punch, pry tool, chisel or lever.
  • Do not use damaged, loose, cracked or excessively worn accessories.
  • Keep hands clear of pinch points around the articulating joint.
  • Do not use on live electrical circuits unless the complete tool setup is rated for insulated electrical work.
